Abertay Game Development Society (AGDS)
I served on the AGDS committee as Events Manager during the 2025-2026 period. I organised many events over that time and ran many first time events for the society that cumulated in us receiving a lot more memberships and engagement for the new year! Below I have listed some of my events I have ran and what I did to get them to be as successful as they were.
Spooky Jam 2025
The spooky jam was an event I was looking forward to as Halloween is my favourite holiday. I wanted to have more fun events available to people to take part in while also having the support to complete their projects. I had ran a teambuilding event for this which featured costume contests, and challenges.
Rockstar x AGDS Mod Jam
The Rockstar mod jam was an event I really wanted to get right. We had the amazing opportunity to host this alongside Rockstar so I worked tirelessly on the event plans and organisation for the technology to figure out the best way to run it. I sat with the IT heads and tried to get GTA5 on the PCs to allow play parties to showcase the projects and spent long hours working on the plans for kickoff all the way to event completion. I took part in this event too as making mods was something that genuinely interested me.
Pub quiz socials
I wanted the society to feel more like a place students could come and relax and to do this I wanted to host quiz nights with fellow committee members. To do this, I reached out to local bars that we had relationships with and managed to speak with one in particular who was very happy to give us the space to host the event. We had a great turnout and the venue staff were a great help.
Freshers Jam 2025
This was the first event I had ran as part of the committee. I wanted to emphasise to students that game jams are for all skill levels and that you don't need prior experience. To achieve this I introduced a new mentor event that would run mid way through the event to let students come in and show their projects to industry professionals and receive feedback on bugs or issues they faced.
AGDX 2026
AGDX was arguably the biggest event of the year for us. It required all hands on deck and for me, I was to communicate and organise speakers for the events panels. Doing this, I got to speak with a lot of spectacular industry professionals and this allowed us to have talks that students could attend.
Talk nights
There were also various different talk nights hosted by us that allowed students to hear from then ask questions to industry professionals. These nights were separate from any other event and meant all the focus was on the speaker.
